# Family Estate Guide care resources — September 17, 2026

Coverage: 50 states plus DC. Territories excluded. CMS active-provider dataset 4pq5-n9py, processing dates ['2026-08-01']; retrieved 2026-09-17T13:54:48.995266+00:00. ACS 2020–2024 state/US data; income dollars are 2024-adjusted.

Certified beds / 1,000 older residents = sum known certified beds / age-group estimate * 1,000. Age 75+ sums B01001_023E/024E/025E/047E/048E/049E; age 85+ uses 025E/049E. Population uncertainty is root-sum-square of corresponding M cells. Administrative bed counts do not have a survey margin here; ratios are descriptive, not tests of capacity/demand differences. Beds serve all ages; this is a population-normalized reference, not age-specific allocated beds. Current CMS snapshot and historical population periods differ.

Distinct CMS CCNs are counted once. Missing beds remain missing and are counted separately. Rated facilities have overall rating 1–5; other values are unrated. 4/5-star percent divides their facility count by rated facilities only (facility-weighted, not bed-weighted). CMS SSA county codes are not treated as FIPS; this project performs state joins only. Star distributions are not a recommendation or a prediction of individual care quality.

Income: B19049_005E/M, median annual money income of households whose householder is 65+, not income of individual seniors, all retirees or nursing-home residents. Before taxes; includes household income, not assets or disposable funds. Published ACS margins use a 90% confidence level; uncertainty is displayed separately from the illustrative comparison. A margin is not 90% error.

Illustrative scenario: $5,000 monthly in 2024 dollars = $60,000 yearly. Bill / median income percent = annual bill / income * 100. Monthly income equivalent = annual median / 12. Neither equals disposable care budget or individual affordability. User quote/year and income may differ from source dollar year; calculator does not silently adjust inflation. Personal income input is optional and changes the denominator without implying benefits eligibility or coverage. Inputs stay in the browser; no calculator input analytics are added.
